Every first Friday of June is the National Donut Day, in which lucky patrons usually get one Krispy Kreme donut free in participating outlets. Selected outlets would also give one free donut when you buy a beverage. This was disclosed by several news sites, June 2, 2011.

Dunkin Donut has launched a contest at Twitter and Facebook as well, where people could answer 6 trivia questions about Dunkin Donuts around the world during the National Donut Day. Participants can answer the question with the tag #DDonut http://twitpic.com/569e1 and get a chance to win a $50 DD card.

Reportedly at Facebook, FB users have trooped to the Dunkin Donut and Krispy Kreme walls to share links about give-away details. More than 3,000 users had liked the page and there are more than 400 comments to date.

The National Donut Day originated from the Salvation Army who had started the practice in 1938 to “honor women” who have served donuts to enlisted men in WW1. Today, various Dunkin Donut outlets still participate and observe the event.
