Nathan Adrian had his swimming suit torn accidentally on Thursday night, March 29, 2012 during the Indianapolis Grand Prix. However, Adrian‘s torn swimsuit did not stop him from winning the 100-meter freestyle over Michael Phelps, according to reports by several international sports sites.

Adrian‘s trunks split on the starting block but he went on to win at 48.62 seconds. He went past Phelps by 12/100ths of a second. The swimmer explained the wardrobe malfunction happened when he “was on the block, bending over. What could I do? It was near. ‘Take your mark.’ I’m not going to stop.”

He described the torn suit as “Stretched out, it was my full butt crack.”

Reports say that instead of talking about Adrian‘s victory over Phelps in the 100-meter freestyle, the topic on several social networking sites was the Adrian swimsuit malfunction.

Later in the night, Phelps won the 100 butterfly by clocking in at 52.23.
