As noted at US news sites early this week, Joe Nelm, a Baptist pastor, led the prayer that day before the NASCAR race event in Tennessee, and made headlines not only in TV news but also online.

Apparently, the prayer was started seriously with the drivers and spectators bowing their heads as Pastor Nelm thanked the Heavenly Father for all the blessings.

On the mid part, he began mentioning car brands such as Dodge, Toyota and Ford; as well as Sunoco racing fuels and Goodyear tires, but later borrowed a line from the film “Talladega Nights“.

“Lord, I want to thank you for my smokin’ hot wife tonight, Lisa, and my two children, Eli and Emma, or as we like to call, ‘The Little E’s,'” the pastor said, as the audience began to laugh.

Nevertheless, Pastor Joe Nelm ended the prayer by saying, “In Jesus name, boogity boogity boogity, Amen.”, and the crowd laughed harder while others even screamed and clapped their hands.

Later, bloggers congratulated Nelm and even dubbed his prayer as the “best NASCAR prayer” they ever heard; while others said they did not like it and suggesting that prayers were supposed to be solemn.

“I want to get somebody’s attention, so that’s been our desire every time we’ve been up there, to try to make an impact on the fans and give them something they’ll remember.” Pastor Joe Nelm reportedly told Sirius Satellite Radio’s “Tradin’ Paint“, defending his side on the issue.
