Tata Nano car, crafted in gold, silver and gem stones, from Tata Motors was unveiled in a theater in Mumbai, India on Monday, September 19, 2011, according to reports by several international news sites.

The Tata Nano micro-car was launched two years ago as the world’s cheapest car.

To boost the sales of its compact car, the 66-year-old Mumbai-based car company turned its $3,000 Nano model into a gold jewelry car covered with 80 kilograms of 22 karat gold, 15 kilograms of silver, and about 10,000 gemstones. After the lavish coverings made by GoldPlus jewelry, the car was estimated to be worth over $4.6 million.

In 2008, Tata Nano has been plagued with incidents of spontaneous combustion that resulted in the recall of about 70,000 units and sales dropped since then.

Below is a YouTube video uploaded by KnewWorldNowing showing the gold laced Nano car from Tata Nano.

Note: The price of the NaNo Goldcar was estimated to be worth over $4.6 million, and not the earlier stated $4,600 million.
