Miss Universe 2011 judges names announced, Lea Salonga among them

The names of the Miss Universe 2011 judges were announced on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, and Pinay international singer and actress Lea Salonga was among them.

As announced by NBC via an online press release, Tony Award-winning singer and actress Lea Salonga was named as one of the judges in the upcoming Miss Universe Beauty Pageant 2011.

The announcement was made by NBC and Miss Universe Organization owner Donald Trump, along with the Miss Universe beauty pageant president Paula M. Shugart.

São Paulo, here I come!!!!!” Lea Salonga (@MsLeaSalonga) tweeted hours after she learned the news, who was also appointed in 2010 as UN Goodwill Ambassador for Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Salonga, 40, who was known for winning the Tony Award in 1991 for her lead performance in the Broadway musical Miss Saigon, will be joined by six other well-known personalities.

The other Miss Universe 2011 judges are 3-time Indianapolis 500 champion Helios Castroneves, American broadcast legend Connie Chung, Brazilian Supermodel Isabeli Fontana, TV producer and actress Vivica Fox, “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” cast Adrienne Maloof and Miss Universe 2003 Amelia Vega.

The 60th Annual Miss Universe Beauty Pageant will be hosted by Andy Cohen and Natalie Morales and will be joined by Style Network’s “How Do I Look” Jeannie Mai and Miss USA 2004 Shandi Finnessy.

The Miss Universe 2011 will be held at the Credicard Hall in São Paulo, Brazil on Monday, September 12 at 9 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live around the world including Telemundo.

In the Philippines, ABS-CBN will be airing the Miss Universe 2011 live on Tuesday morning, September 13, with 25-year old UP-Diliman Magna Cum Laude Shamcey Supsup representing the country.

As of this writing, Shamcey Supsup continues to lead the online survey at, garnering 1,893,340 votes and is being followed by Miss Venezuela Vanessa Gonçalves who has now 1,809,696 votes.

An online voting began last August 19 at and,
and will end on September 11, in which the overall winner will have an automatic slot in the Miss Universe 2011 semi-finals, a first time in its history.
