According to ABC News on Monday, August 8, 2011, Cynthia de la Vega’s crown as Miss Mexico 2010 runner-up was taken from her by the organizers recently after learning that she gained 6 lbs.

“I was very sad and very deceived. I cried and cried and cried.” she was quoted as telling ABC’s Good Morning America, who earlier said that she is very much excited to represent her country.

As noted on the report, the 19-year old Mexican beauty queen did not deny that she gained weight while preparing hard for the Miss World 2011 pageant this coming November 6 in London.

However, she said on a press conference last week that she was never warned of any physical requirements for the upcoming beauty contest.

Ms. de la Vega, who won the Miss Mexico-World crown last September, noted that her pageant coach, Luis Rangel provided her a diet, which she said consisted of “the same food during the whole month”.

“Organizers of the Nuestra Belleza Mexico contest demanded that I lose a few kilos, but they never provided a nutritionist or any other assistance to ensure the weight loss.” De la Vega told reporters.

“A proper nutrition plan should be specific for each day of the week and should also be supervised to make the necessary adjustments.” She added.

On the other hand, Nuestra Belleza Mundo Mexico, Miss Mexico organizer, told reports that De la Vega was axed due to “lack of dedication and discipline” and not because she gained weight.

“She [Cynthia] did not comply with the recommendations and goals agreed upon for her preparation,” Nuestra Belleza Mexico pageant national director Lupita Jones was quoted in a statement.

The Mexican beauty pageant has chosen Gabriela Palacio to replace De la Vega as the country’s representative to the Miss World 2011 pageant.
