According to Dominican Republic news site Diario Libre on Wednesday, 25, 2012, they obtained a copy of the marriage certificate stating that Carlina Duran was married to a certain Emad Adl on June 6, 2009.

As noted in the report, the civil wedding ceremony was witnessed by Fernando Antonio Bello Martinez and Janet Helen Blandino, and was made official by Baez and Queen Esther Perez Cuello, the registrar; making Carlina clearly violated the rules of the beauty pageant.

Duran, 25, who was crown as Miss Dominican Republic 2012 last Tuesday, April 17, later that night appeared in a news conference and admitted that she is married, but noting that she never lived with her husband.

“In my daily life, I remained like a single woman, without thinking of myself neither materially nor spiritually married,” Radhames Cornielle, was quoted in the press conference, reading the statement of Ms. Duran, with annulment proceedings to have started but clear if it was finalized.

The next day, Thursday, Miss Dominican Republic Universe beauty pageant organizers thru its head Magali Febles, officially dethroned Carlina Duran as the winner and passed the crown to first runner-up Dulcita Lieggi Francisco.

“From the beginning, both in interviews and in written forms, Carlina defined her civil status as single and never specified that she has been married in the past,” Febles was quoted in the paper, based on Google Translate.

Carlina committed a very serious offense; however, the organization will not perform any legal action against her, and will support and extend our hand for her to go forward.” Febles added, who personally placed the crown on top of Dulcita Lieggi’s head in a press conference that day.
