As noted at technology websites that day, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer revealed Surface in a press event at Milk Studios in Los Angeles, a tablet which has a 10.6-inch display and will run the new version of Microsoft‘s operating system.
According to Microsoft, there will be two options for their Surface tablet, one being powered by Intel‘s 22nm Ivy Bridge chips running Windows 8, and another being powered by an ARM chipset and Windows RT, with both devices feature optional Touch and Type keyboard covers.
Meanwhile, Microsoft‘s Intel-based Surface tablet will run Windows 8 Pro, with a thickness of 13.5mm, a weight of 1.9lbs, and USB 3.0 support, and will also include magnesium casing and a built-in kickstand, and will be available in either 64GB or 128GB storage.
On the other hand, the Microsoft tablet Windows RT version is 9.3mm thin and weighs 1.5lbs, and includes a built-in kickstand. It is notably the first PC with a vapor-deposited (PVD) magnesium case, which will be available in 32GB or 64GB versions, and sports a 10.6-inch ClearType HD display, similar to the Intel-based version.
Apparently, the optional Touch Cover senses keystrokes as gestures, which allows users to touch type significantly faster than with an on-screen keyboard. It clicks into Surface tablet via a built-in magnetic connector, forming a natural spine similar to a book protective cover, which goes along with the Type cover.
Nevertheless, Microsoft did not mention the availability and prices of both devices, which are being expected to be announced later.
