Sen. Debbie Stabenow was reelected to the Michigan Senate after winning her third term on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, defeating former Republican congressman Pete Hoekstra, international news sites reported that day.

According to Washington Post, Stabenow won 56% of the vote while Hoekstra only got 41%. Hoekstra reportedly earned a reputation for racial insensitivity with a controversial Super Bowl ad.

“We’re coming back. Michigan is coming back,” Stabenow reportedly said during her victory speech at the MGM Grand in Detroit.

“If we focus on education and out-innovating the competition, we will win. And Michigan will keep moving forward,” Stabenow was quoted as saying.
