As noted at Star Tribune on Wednesday, the said Bachmann-Graves debate, which was held at the River’s Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota, is the first of their three-part debates. The two clashed as they debated about creating jobs, tax reforms, and economic policies, among others.
During the debate, Graves said that if he wins, he will remove the wage base on Social Security contributions, where an income above $110,000 is currently not taxable. Bachmann insisted that it would mean “the largest tax increase in American history” and accused Obamacare of taking money from Medicare.
“We have to reform the system for those that are 55 years and younger. And whether that’s changing age variables, there’s a number of variables that we can put in. That’s what we have to look at.” Bachmann said, with the debate being hosted by St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce President Teresa Bohnen.
“You just heard some political speak there…Again, Michele doesn’t say what she’s for. She says what she’s against.” Graves said of Bachmann, who ended her campaign for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination last January, and is running for her fourth term.
“This is a moral issue. We can’t go down the path that we’re in. And yes, I’ve very much been a part of the solution and it’s insulting to say these are political speech because that’s one thing I do not do is political speech.” Bachmann said; who will face Graves again this Thursday, November 01 and on Sunday, November 4.
