“Je les tous Defonce Coréens, allez vous tous Bruler, bande de trisos!” Michel Morganella (@morgastoss) reportedly tweeted after South Korea won against Switzerland (2-1) on Sunday, as posted at 101greatgoals.com; which was said to be slang Swiss language calling South Koreans as “bunch of retarded.”
As noted in the report, the 23-year old Swiss athlete was booed throughout the match after he picked up an “injury” in a phantom challenge with Arsenal forward Park Chu Young; and that he felt being provoked by “negative comments” on his Twitter account, which was later deactivated.
“Michel Morganella has discriminated against, insulted and violated the dignity of the South Korean football team as well as the South Korean people,” Gian Gilli, head of the Swiss Olympic delegation, was quoted in a statement, posted at NY Daily News, adding that the Swiss athlete has been sent back home.
Meanwhile, Morganella reportedly admitted his mistake and apologized, noting that he is “sincerely sorry for the people of South Korea, for the players, but equally for the Swiss delegation and Swiss football in general,” and he has already accepted the consequences of his act.
Morganella is the second athlete that has been expelled from London Olympics, after Greek triple jumper Voula Papachristou, who also posted a racist comment on her Twitter account last week, apparently mocking African immigrants. She later apologized but Greek Olympics Team still ejected her from the Olympic Games.
