According to US new sites, a huge smoke was seen at the said airport in Miami at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, as more than 30 firefighter members rushed to the area.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesman Capt. Eric Baum told reports that the fire occurred at the fuel tank area of the Miami International Airport, which was under control at around 1 a.m. on Thursday.

“This is an extremely dangerous operation,” Baum was quoted as saying, noting that the fire was neither near the runways nor the terminals.

“It’s very fluid. Our tactics right now are to prevent additional tanks from catching fire.” He added, as firefighters needed to use ladder trucks to stop the fire immediately and to protect other tanks.

Meanwhile, airport spokesman Greg Chin said that an American Airlines flight to Chile was delayed for about 45 minutes due to the incident.

He added that a few other flights may later be delayed too since numerous fuel tanks were affected by the fire.

Travelers have been advised to check individual airlines for their latest flight updates, while the Miami airport’s official website has posted no flight delay report as of this writing.
