The Weinstein Company, its distributor, announced on Sunday, November 6, 2011 that the film “The Iron Lady” will be released on the said date, which was earlier said to be December 16.

“UPDATE: #IronLady release date is now December 30th! Mark your calendars!” The Weinstein Company (@WeinsteinFilms) tweeted on Sunday, with a link to the official website of “The Iron Lady” movie, IronladyMovie.com.

Apparently, the new release date of the movie is just in time for the requirement of the Academy since its rules said that a movie shown be shown on before midnight of December 31 to begin its one-week qualifying run in Los Angeles County. It will also be shown in UK on January 6, 2012.

As earlier reported, the filming of the Margaret Thatcher biopic started last January in UK and a trailer teaser was released last July 7, showing Meryl Streep as the former British Prime Minister.

Other casts of “The Iron Lady” film include Olivia Coleman, Richard E. Grant and Jim Broadbent, who will play the role of Denis Thatcher, Margaret‘s late husband.
