As noted at Automotive News Europe on Saturday, July 23, 2011, unnamed sources from the plant told them that the production of the new Mercedes Benz car may start in 2015.

According to the report, the 5th Mercedes Benz, which is likely to be called “MLC“, will be part of the $2-billion investment expansion in Alabama plant and will add to the M-class luxurious vehicle.

Apparently, this “MLC” model is being expected to have a coupe-like roofline and designed to compete with BMW X6, which was manufactured in South Carolina.

As of this writing, no further details were revealed as a Mercedes Benz spokesman have reportedly declined to comment, but executives noted that the “M” designation would eventually symbolize a family of new models.

Meanwhile, car production in Alabama plant was said to be reaching to about 160,000 units a year, with manpower of 2,800 people, as Mercedes Benz battles with BMW for being the best-selling luxury brand in the US.
