Millions of people around the world look up to Hollywood movie stars, not knowing that they can be dangerous too.

This was the result of the tests done by McAfee last July after they identified the most dangerous websites, and Cameron Diaz was listed as the “most dangerous celebrity online search”.

Experts learned that online criminals are using top celebrities to steal the private information of online searchers, using malicious software. Thousands of Internet users ignore the risk that lead their computers having affected with virus, while they click on strange sites.

Later, these hackers easily get email passwords, and other vital information that they can use for illegal transactions. Throughout last year, more than six million newly created suspicious programming were created, which is equivalent to about 60,000 daily.

Julia Roberts, who is now promoting her latest film “Eat, Pray, Love,” landed as the second most dangerous celebrity online search. Searching for her name resulted 20 percent risky when photos or wallpaper were downloaded. Jessica Biel fell on the third spot, but was last year’s top on the list.

“Cybercriminals often use the names of popular celebrities to lure people to sites that are actually laden with malicious software,” said Dave Marcus, from McAfee, which commissioned the study.

He added: “They know that people want to have screensavers of popular individuals. They follow hot topics on the web and create their poisonous content accordingly and (lay) traps based on the latest trends.”

Other Hollywood movie stars who were included in the list of most dangerous celebrity online search are: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Nicole Kidman, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz and Anna Paquin.

Victoria’s Secret lingerie models Gisele Buendchen, Adriana Lima, and Heidi Klum were among the Top Ten while tennis stars Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick were 13th and 14th respectively.

On the other hand, US President Barack Obama and Sarah Palin, both ranked last on the list as released by an internet security firm. This makes them less threatening names for online searches.
