German artist Martin Kippenberger‘s sculpture “Wenn’s anfaengt durch die Decke zu tropfen” (“When it Starts Dripping from the Ceiling”) was damaged inside the Ostwall museum in Dortmund, western Germany according to reports by several international news sites on Friday, November 4, 2011.

A woman assigned of cleaning the museum reportedly scrubbed away a patina intentionally made to create a dried rain puddle effect at its base.

The sculpture valued at 800,000 euro ($1.1 million) remains on display at the Ostwall museum despite the damaged.

According to Dortmund city spokeswoman Dagmar Papajewski, all cleaning personnel were instructed to stay at least 20 centimeters (8 inches) away from the artwork.

It was also reported that insurance adjusters are now assessing the damage to the Martin Kippenberger sculpture.
