According to ESPN today, Tuesday, May 7, 2013, Michael Koncz, Pacquiao‘s adviser, confirmed to them about the upcoming boxing match. Koncz said that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and both fighters have already agreed on the terms, and the contracts are now being finalized.
As noted in the report, Brandon Rios has agreed to the terms on Monday morning, while Koncz will be bringing the contract to Pacquiao here in the Philippines, sometime soon. Koncz noted that the Pacquiao-Rios fight will have a 147-pound limit at the welterweight limit.
“People know what Rios brings to the table. People want to see a real fight, and that is what you get with Rios. We’re building a business in Macau and China and these are the kinds of fights — real action fights — that they want to see.” Bob Arum was quoted in the report.
“Manny is definitely going to get his mojo back with this fight. Brandon Rios likes to fight in the pocket and exchange, and Manny is very good in the pocket, too. I think it’ll be an exciting fight but that Manny is going to land in the pocket at some point and knock this guy out somewhere along the way.” Coach Freddie Roach told ESPN.com.
Rios, 27, of Oxnard, California, is a former WBA lightweight champion that has a record of 31-1-1, 23 Kos. His last fight was against Mike Alvarado and was held last March 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He lost the fight via unanimous decision, but he beat him in October 2012 via TKO in Round 7.
On the other hand, Pacquiao, 34, lost his last two fights: against Timothy Bradley in June 2012 via a controversial split decision, and was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez in Round 6 last December.
