Batangas, Philippines – A fire broke out at Malvar, Batangas on Thursday, July 21, 2011 while there was no power (brownout) on that area and blazed 7 houses as witnessed by the news author, as shown in the photos below.

With my estimate, the fire broke out at around 1:30 a.m. (local time) on Thursday at R. Latayan St., Bgy. Poblacion, as my wife woke me up at around 2 a.m. with only one house burning.

I rushed outside and call attention of our neighbors, which I saw at least two people including my closest neighbor Warlito running to the fire and throwing water.

Meanwhile, the fire fast approaching other houses including where we live (rented house) while the first fire truck arrived and the burning house collapsed within few minutes while we were throwing pails of water.

According to my neighbors, at least seven fire trucks arrived including that from Malvar, Lipa City, Tanauan City, Sto. Tomas, Talisay and Batangas Congressman Mark Llandro “Dong” Mendoza.

As of this writing, thorough investigation is going on but since it was brownout that time, a possibility of a burning candle could have started the fire, which I assumed was controlled at around 3:30 a.m.

However, 90-year old mother Natividad Reaño, who was living alone in the first house that was caught by fire, did not survive the incident, while his eldest son Roberto was seriously hurt and immediately brought to the hospital.
