Malacañang Officially Declares August 30, 2011 a Holiday via Proclamation No. 234

Manila, Philippines – Malacañang Palace officially declared that August 30, 2011 a regular holiday throughout the Philippines.

As per Official Gazette of the Republic of the Philippines post, President Benigno S. Aquino III signed Proclamation No. 234 last August 11, 2011.

Proclamation No. 234 states that August 30, 2011, a Tuesday will be a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan).

The proclamation further explained that Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim World for three days after the end of the month of fasting and in order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Tuesday, August 30, 2011 as a regular holiday throughout the Philippines.

This announcement confirmed earlier reports that there would be a long holiday at the end of the month of August 2011 as August 29 (Monday) is National Heroes’ Day and August 30 (Tuesday) is the Feast of Ramadan holiday.
