Maine Lobster Harvest in 2010 Reached 93.4M Pounds Valued Over $308M

The Maine lobster harvest in 2010 sets a record of 93.4 million pounds, breaking the 2009 record of 81.2 million pounds, according to a report by the Department of Marine Resources in Maine, Portland.

The Maine fishermen 2010 lobster harvest was valued at $308 million. The value is reportedly the third in the record, with the 2005 harvest as the highest valued with $317.9 million.

Lobster is considered as Maine‘s signature seafood. Maine authorities revealed that the overall seafood harvest in Maine last year totaled 245.3 million pounds amounting to $448.7 million. The seafood harvest in 2010 increased by 14 million pounds from 2009 and the value increased by $120 million.
