Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU): Still an ISO 9001:2008 Certified School

The Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) in Batangas, recently passed with flying colors, its re-certification for ISO 9001:2008. The re-certification was affirmed during the Surveillance Audit by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), the ISO certifying body. Having attained this certification status means that LPU Batangas is a university that implements its Quality Management System (QMS) ISO 9001:2008 to the fullest.

LPU got its first ISO 9001:2000 certification in 2007, and upgraded its certification to ISO 9001:2008 in 2009. The university also attained its university and autonomous status in 2009.

During the Surveillance Audit, the auditors from DNV evaluates the implementation of ISO 9001:2008 of LPU. DNV auditors looked for the following items:

  • Non-Conformance — Is there any non-conformity in any element of the ISO 9001:2008?
  • Observations — Is there any violation of the ISO 9001:2008 that needs to be addressed immediately because it might be considered as non-conformity later on?
  • Improvement Opportunities — Is there any findings that if addressed as suggested may be taken as Noteworthy Efforts?
  • Noteworth Efforts — Is there any findings of best practices that are over and above the ISO standards?

The ISO 9001:2008 implementation in LPU is a collective effort by the Management Quality Team, Lead Auditor, Director of Quality Assurance, Internal Auditors, LPU Document Custodian, College/Department/Work Unit heads, College and Department Document Custodians, and process owners.
