Lisa Murkowski to be declared winner as Alaska Senator, Joe Miller’s election suit dismissed

State election officials are set to declare Lisa Murkowski on Thursday as the official winner for Alaska Senator, after a federal court dismissed Joe Miller’s election suit on Tuesday, contesting the results of the write-in votes.

According to US news sites, District Court Judge Ralph R. Beistline cleared the way for Republican write-in candidate Lisa Murkowski to win the senatorial race in Alaska over Joe Miller.

Judge Beistline wrote on his 14-page ruling stated that the argument of Miller against the state’s handling of the write-in ballot count were debatable, and mentioned that ‘Alaska Supreme Court is the final expositor of Alaska law’.

Apparently, this will end the month-long appeal of Miller that Murkowski’s name should be spelled correctly on the ballots and should be disregard otherwise.

Murkowski, who lost against Miller as Republican primary candidate last August, ran as write-in candidate, started to lead the votes through unofficial election results and eventually went ahead by more than 10,000 votes, or 4.5% of the total votes cast.

Incidentally, the state clarified that it will officially certify Lisa Murkowski on Thursday, contrary to earlier reports that she was certified shortly after the court have dismissed the case against the petition of Joe Miller.

The official certification of Senator Lisa Murkowski on Thursday will be done by Alaska Governor Sean Parnell and Lieutenant Governor Mead Treadwell.
