Legendary R & B Singer, Teena Marie Passed Away in Her Sleep

The legendary R & B singer, Teena Marie passed away in her sleep. This was tweeted, December 26, 2010 and was confirmed by his manager Mike Gardner. Entertainment news reports said that her daughter, Alia Rose,  found her lifeless body in her room.  Apparently, Teena Marie, sometimes misspelled as Tina Marie, died in her sleep unexpectedly.

There was no evidence of foul play.  Lady T, another of her moniker, had suffered a seizure previously and this may have some significance to the cause of death. However, there is still no announcement as to the official cause.

Alia Rose has performed with her mother on a few occasions and wants to follow on her mom’s footsteps. She performs under the name, Rose Le Beau.

Teena Marie’s death came as a surprise to friends because during the Christmas season, she had tweeted some messages to her Twitter followers greeting them warmly and wishing them a “joyous holiday.”

Known privately as Marie Christine Brockert, she was born on March 5, 1956.  Under the tutelage of Rick James, she signed in with Motown Records in 1976 where she recorded several albums and was recognized and awarded by the Grammy.

Teena Marie could play the keyboards and the electric guitar superbly. She was known as the “Ivory Queen of Soul,” and was the first white woman who was openly accepted by R & B fans during the 70s and 80s. Her songs include “Out on a Limb,” “Can’t Last a Day,” “The Pressure,” and so many wonderful songs, sang in her great, ululating voice. Her recent album this 2010, “Congo Square,” has made it to Top 20 in the Billboards Top 200.

Facebook and Twitter have joined the world in mourning the demise of another legendary R & B singer, Teena Marie.
