Apparently, the LeBron James-Fenway deal is the first of its kind where an athlete at the height of his career has shown interest with a huge sports marketing team.

Fenway Sports Marketing, sister company of Boston Red Sox, was said to be handling LeBron James’ own marketing firm, LRMR Branding & Marketing and will have exclusive worldwide rights to market the NBA star and his image.

As part of the deal, LeBron James will also acquire a small portion of Liverpool FC in which no amount was disclosed, with the FSM being owned by John Henry and Tom Werner.

“We’re not interested in talent or athlete representation but we think he is one of the most remarkable athletes of his time,” Tom Werner tells WSJ.

“We believe we can open doors for LeBron and LeBron can open doors for us.” Mr. Werner added.

“I am thrilled to be working with John Henry and Tom Werner. These guys, like me, have a passion for sports.” LeBron James told reports.

“You can see the drive and commitment they have for their teams. For me, this is about being in business with an organization that loves sports as much as I do.” The two-time NBA MVP added.
