According Dallas Morning News that day, Cowboys fullback Lawrence Vickers left his team at Valley Ranch after spending only about an hour of practice, after he had fire ants in his pants, with head athletic trainer Jim Mauer escorting him to the locker room.
As noted in the report, Vickers, 29, who signed a 2-year contract with Dallas Cowboys last March 14 and known to be allergic to fire ants, was holding his right hand near his waist as he left the organized team activities, which is now on its final week.
“Fire ants got in my pants. I was freaking out. Oh, ants!” Vickers was quoted in the report; who was stung by fire ants during a workout around four months ago, and he knew then that he is allergic to the insect’s bite and has been carrying EpiPen a treatment for allergic reaction, with him since then.
“I was trying not to squeeze myself in front of women out there. I wanted to pull my pants down and run inside, but I couldn’t do that. When those ants get close to those tɛsticles, there ain’t no laughing about that.” Vickers added, noting that he took Benadryl that time and washed off and returned to the practice about 15 minutes later.
