According to Deadline on Tuesday, June 7, Laurence Fishburne will leave “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and will not be seen anymore in the show next fall.

Apparently, Fishburne renewed his contract for CSI last May but for only one season, with the show to be moved to Wednesday 10 p.m. (US time) next season.

Fishburne, 49, joined CSI on its Season 9 and played the role of Dr. Raymond Langston, replacing William Petersen who portrayed as Dr. Gilbert “Gil” Grissom and left the show in December 2008.

“Nobody expected him to be on the show for 7 years, it’s Laurence Fishburne,” a source was quoted as saying on the report, whose movie career became silent since he joined the show.

Laurence Fishburne is known for his role as Morpheus in the “Matrix” trilogy movies, and will appear in the upcoming film “Contagion” with Matt Damon.

As of this writing, there is no replacement yet for Fishburne and CBS was said to be formally announcing his departure later.
