Lahing Batangan Dance Troupe of LPU to receive 2010 Dangal ng Pilipinas Seal of Excellence

The Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) continues to prove its excellence in the Education sector with all the accolades that it continues to receive. LPU is consistently living up to its slogan to “Take the Lead.”

Recent achievements of LPU include the attainment of Center of Excellence and Center of Development status for its HRM and Tourism programs, respectively. It has also attained its 7th Level Three Program with the recent awarding of Level 3 certificate for the Marine Transportation program.

This time, its world renowned Lahing Batangan Dance Troupe (LBDT) will be on center stage to receive the 2010 Dangal ng Pilipinas Seal of Excellence.

After receiving the Hall of Fame Dangal ng Pilipinas Award last year, Lahing Batangan Dance Troupe (LBDT), the nationally and internationally acclaimed folk dance troupe of Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) in Batangas, is set to have another prestigious recognition – – – the 2010 Dangal ng Pilipinas Seal of Excellence for being the Best Cultural and Artistic Dance Troupe in the Philippines.

The said recognition is part of the “2010 Consumers’ Choice & Dangal ng Pilipinas 10th Annual Awards“, the pioneer and biggest consumers’ tribute spearheaded by the Consumers League of the Philippines (CONPHIL), Inc., in line with the national celebration of Consumers’ Month this November.

LBDT will receive the award in a ceremony to be held on November 27, 2010 at Ateneo De Manila University’s Irwin Theater. The Consumers’ Choice Award for Outstanding Products and Services is conferred to successful companies, agencies and institutions whose particular products / services have been nominated by the majority of affiliated informal sector associations nationwide, chosen during the random opinion polls conducted. Board of Jurors gives the final approval based on the following criteria: company’s reliability; excellent product / service quality; competence, marketability and price reasonability; contribution to public service and safety; and public opinion and nominations.

At 15, LBDT continues the errantry of vindicating and promoting the authentic Philippine arts and culture.  Founded in 1995, it is a duly accredited proponent of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and recognized by the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Having won in a number of competitions and having performed for the cause of helping the under-privileged and undermined Filipinos through their concerts, LBDT was appointed as the cultural ambassador of LPU and of the Batangas Province as well.

The group has ventured to international tours as the Philippine representative in the 2008 International Folkdance Festival in Italy, and 2010 XIII Melaka Drum Festival in Malaysia.

Under the choreography of the Artistic  and Dance Director , Mr. Rodel Fronda and the supervision of the LPU Director for Culture and Arts, Mr. Eric V. Orolfo, LBDT will continue to show the brilliance of the Filipino culture, not only in the Philippines but also abroad.
