The Los Angeles Lakers rallied behind the hot shooting of Shannon Brown and escaped with a win against the Houston Rockets, 112-110. The Houston Rockets almost spoiled the party in LA, but poor shooting and too many turnovers in the  fourth quarter costs them the game. The defending champion Lakers received their recent championship rings just before the Lakers-Rockets game.

Pau Gasol led the Lakers with 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Shannon Brown had 16 points and scored timely three point shots to cool off the Rockets. Brown shot 4 of 5 from the three point range for the Lakers. Kobe Bryant scored 27 points, but was out of the game when the Lakers started to make a run and grabbed the lead from the Rockets in the fourth quarter.

Kevin Martin and Aaron Brooks led the way for the Rockets as they scored 26, 24 respectively. Luis Scola added 18 for the Rockets. Yao Ming, fouled out of the game with over six minutes in the game, only scored nine points for Houston.
