Amazon cuts prices of Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch tablet in the US on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. The Amazon tablet is also available now in Japan and Europe. The Kindle Fire price cut is applicable to the 16GB Wi-Fi enabled and 16GB 4G LTE version, which are now $269 and $399, respectively.

As announced at Amazon.com that day, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ tablet, which is being dubbed as the large-screen version of its best-selling tablet, is now available in UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Japan. The Wi-Fi version used to cost $299, while the 4G LTE was earlier priced at $499.

“We’re thrilled with customer reaction to Kindle Fire HD 8.9″. Customers tell us they love our large-screen version of Kindle Fire HD for web browsing, email, gaming, watching TV shows, reading magazines, and more.” Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle, was quoted in the press release.

“As we expand Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ to Europe and Japan, we’ve been able to increase our production volumes and decrease our costs. Across our business at Amazon, whenever we are able to create cost efficiencies like this, we want to pass the savings along to our customers.” Mr. Limp added.

The 32GB Wi-Fi version now costs $299, while the 64GB 4G LTE model costs $499. The 7″ Kindle Fire HD 16GB version remains at $199, while the 32GB version is still $249. Last January, Amazon also announced a Kindle Fire price cut of $50 to Amazon Student members with active Amazon Prime membership.

Among the key features of the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ tablet include having a 1,920-by-1,200 resolution display, an OMAP 4470 processor, a high performance 1.5Ghz dual-core processor with Imagination PowerVR 3D graphics core, and a front-facing HD camera.
