As noted E! News that day, Kim Kardashian filed the divorce papers in Los Angeles Superior Court and listed their separation date also that day, ending her 72-day marriage with Kris Humphries.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage,” Kim Kardashian told E!, who did not reveal any reason for the separation although she cited in the document as “irreconcilable differences”.

“I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.” She added.

“All of us at E! are surprised and saddened by this news, and we send our support to Kim and Kris at this difficult time,” E! said, where her reality TV show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” is being aired.

Kim Kardashian, 31, and Kris Humphries, 26, became engaged last May and were married on August 20, 2011 in Montecito, California. They had a prenuptial agreement and Kim asked the court to deny spousal support to Humphries.

The Kim Kardashian-Kris Humphries wedding was controversial since it was dubbed as very lavishing with an estimated cost of $20 million, but was almost free because the couple reportedly made $17.9 million since the wedding ceremony turned into a media extravaganza.

Later, Kris Humphries released a statement saying that he is devastated and willing to do whatever it takes to make the marriage work.
