Kayaker, Shark Close Encounter in Florida Coast Caught on Video

A kayaker and a basking shark had a rare close encounter off the Panama City, Florida coast, according to a report by Fox8 on Friday, March 25, 2011.

Josh Reeves, a kayaker working in a shark tour guide company, saw a rare “basking shark” that was about 20 to 30 feet long.

Upon seeing the shark, Reeves paddled his 14 feet long kayak near it and jumped into the water.

According to Reeves, the size of the shark is twice the length of his kayak. He explained that he was not afraid of the shark because the shark only eats krill and plankton.
