Kalinga’s Pride, Jeffry Ysmael, Led the Philippine National Poomsae Team to Win Gold, Bronze Medals in the World Taekwondo Hanmadang 2011

Jeffry Ysmael, from Tabuk City, Kalinga, led the Philippine National Poomsae Team to win a gold in the International Authorized Poomsae Senior II  and a bronze in the International Team Demo World Taekwondo at the Hanmadang 2011 held in South Korea last August 10 to 13, 2011.

The Philippine team composed of Jeffry Ysmael (Tabuk City, Kalinga), Gleen Lava (Cebu), and Ernesto Guzman (Tuguegarao City) had impressed the judges to run away with the gold medal.

The bronze medal was won also by Jeffry Ysmael, Glenn Lava, Ernesto Guzman, Junice Lagman, Camille Allarila, Rani Ortega, John Pear Sabido, Bryan Sabido, and Gallilee Tinaya.

There were 30 participating countries, which included the Philippines. The others were Australia, Cambodia, Canada, China, Chinese, Columbia, England, Indonesia, Iran, India, Ireland, Italy, South Korea, Germany, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Myanmar, Pakistan, Senegal, Singapore, Spain, South Africa, Syria, Thailand, Taipei, Turkey, US, and Vietnam.

It was an extraordinary victory for Jeffry Ysmael, who came from humble beginnings in Kalinga. Due to hard work and perseverance, he was able to pursue his dreams of a world title.

For the rest of the Philippine team, the international title is proof that the Filipino Athlete is World Class and is able to hold his own against any athlete in the international community.
