After making his final measurement, Craig Glenday, Guinness World Records editor-in-chief, officially declared Junrey Balawing of Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines, as the new world’s shortest man, according to various Philippine news sites as of June 12, 2011.

Junrey Balawing, measured 23.5 inches (60 centimeters), had reportedly broken the record of Khagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal, who stands at about 26.4 inches (67 centimeters) tall.

Craig Glenday was reportedly quoted saying, “I can’t imagine anyone else quite so small.”

Based on similar reports, Junrey Balawing received Guinness World Records certificate with no cash prize.

Craig Glenday was apparently hopeful that the international fame would bring in gifts and donations, particularly medical supplies to ensure the health of Balawing, who has difficulty standing due to weak knees.

Related reports claim that the title was bestowed on Junrey Balawing with a feast, a cake, balloons and cash gifts from villagers and local officials.
