Junrey Balawing, 17, of Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines is set to become the world’s shortest or smallest man when he turns 18 this June, several international news sites reported.

According to reports, Junrey is only 22 inches tall. At the age of 17, he is just as tall as a one-year-old. He is about 5 inches shorter than the current smallest man in the world – Khagendra Thapa Magar, who is 26.4 inches tall.

Junrey is the eldest of four children but has to stay at home all day so his mother Concepcion can take care of him. According to her mother, Junrey cannot stand for too long and can only walk with help. However, he is looking forward to wear “the shortest man in the world crown” with pride.

“If I were the smallest man in the world, it would be very cool!” Junrey was quoted saying.

According to reports, Concepcion and Junrey’s blacksmith father, Reynaldo only realized something was wrong when Junrey was already two years old. However, medics were not able to help. At 12, he was told to get vitamins but his family cannot afford them.
