As noted at ESPN news sites that day, Joey Chestnut won the 2011 Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest for men’s division and his 5th consecutive crown, after eating 62 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

“Winning tastes pretty good. I feel great, It was hot out here but that didn’t really affect me.” Chestnut was quoted at ESPN after the contest, where it was aired live.

Patrick “Deep Dish” Bertoletti won the second place, finishing off 53 hot dogs, while Tim Janus comes in third after eating 45 hot dogs, with Chestnut‘s closest rival Takeru Kobayashi not allowed to join the contest.

On the other hand, Sonya Thomas won the first-ever women’s Nathan’s July 4th Hot Dog eating contest about half an hour earlier, and ate 40 hot dogs in just 10 minutes as shown in the video below.

Thomas, who weighs about 103 pounds, beat eight other contestants including 2009 Rookie of the Year Juliet Lee, who won the second place after eating 29 1/2 hot dogs in the same time.

“I can’t measure how I’m feeling right now. I’m so happy, I’m so full for hot dogs but I definitely can eat something later tonight.” Thomas told ESPN, who is also known as the “Black Widow“.

Back in 2009, Thomas ate 41 hot dogs and became the record holder for a female contestant to have eaten the most number of hot dogs in 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, defending champion Joey Chestnut did not beat his earlier world record for eating 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes which he made in 2009.

Besides the trophy, Joey Chestnut and Sonya Thomas will receive $10,000 each as the prize for winning the 2011 Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest.
