Thousands of Christian pilgrims followed the Jerusalem route Jesus took on the way to his crucifixion during the annual holy fire rites, according to reports by several international sites.

The holy fire ceremony is being celebrated a day before Easter Sunday at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher since 1,200 years ago.

During the ritual, the small doorway leading to Jesus‘ tomb opened and a bright flame was seen.

Reports say that the holy fire rites was attended by various Orthodox Christian sects that include Armenian monks dressed in black robes and pointed hoods and Russian Orthodox women wearing turquoise headscarves.
