MTV announced on Thursday, August 30, 2012 that its reality show “Jersey Shore” will be canceled, four days after its star, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi gave birth to a baby boy named Lorenzo Dominic LaValle. This means that its upcoming Season 6 will be its last one, which will premiere this October.
According to MTV on its official website that day, the show Jersey Shore will be canceled after its 6th season, which will start on October 4, 2012 at 10 p.m (local time). The network will commemorate the end of the show with a series of farewell programs titled “Gym, Tan, Look Back,” which will air on Thursday, September 6.
Jersey Shore, which premiered on December 3, 2009 in the United States, is a story of eight housemates spending their summer at the Jersey Shore in New Jersey, and was the highest-rated show in the network’s history. It had international spinoffs including “Geordie Shore” in the U.K. and “Gandia Shore” in Spain.
Its Season 1 reportedly averaged 2.7 million viewers and eventually increased, with its Season 4 garnering 8.87 million viewers, but began to decline when Season 5 started. Some of the cast members have enjoyed several spinoffs, including “The Pauly D. Project” and “Snooki & JWOWW.”
“Yes, sadly it’s true. This upcoming season of Jersey Shore will be our last. But it was fricken insane. I will always love my roomies!” Snooki (@snooki) tweeted after the MTV announcement; who announced last March that she is pregnant and is engaged to the father of her baby, Jionni LaVelle.
