Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd will be fined by the NBA $50,000 for dropping a cup of soda on the floor to allegedly get an extra time in their game against the Los Angeles Lakes on Wednesday, Yahoo Sports reported.

As shown in the embedded video below, Kidd was caught telling Tyshawn Taylor to “hit me” with 8.3 seconds remaining on the game. Taylor walked into Kidd who spilled the drink he was holding, forcing the officials to take time to clean up while Nets assistant coach John Welch drew an offensive play.

However, the stunt did not help as the Nets lost the game, 99-94. Kidd initially denied that they purposely did the “spilled drink stunt.”

“The cup slipped out of my hand. I was getting tired. Sweaty palms. I was never good with the ball. So, in the heat of the battle, you’re trying to get guys in and out of the game, and the Coke fell out of my hand,” Kidd reportedly told reporters at the game.
