U.S. Army 2nd Lt. Jalyessa Walker sets a new world record for the most consecutive backflips on Saturday, November 24, international news sites reported on Monday, November 26, 2012.

According to reports, Walker, a former cheerleader, broke the world record by flipping 49 times across a college football field in front of about 20,400 people in El Paso, Texas. Walker only needed 36 flips to break the record, but she had a personal goal of 50.

“I wish I didn’t run out of room so I could have done 50. As soon as I hit the concrete, I was starting to get tired and scared because I didn’t want to fall,” Walker was quoted as saying by El Paso Times.

When asked why she tried to set a new world record doing backflips, Walker answered: “I like challenges. I’ve been a gymnastics since I was four, and tumbling is what I love to do. This is the perfect thing for me. So I thought why not give it a try.”

The record is not yet official until Guinness World Records confirmed it. However, with the video provided and more than 20,000 eyewitnesses, the confirmation of Guinness will just be a formality, reports said.
