As noted at MTV.com that day, the Jack Reacher movie was previously titled One Shot, with Tom Cruise portraying the role of a 6’5″ tall ex-military policeman-turned-benevolent drifter. The film was directed by Christopher McQuarrie and courtesy of Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions.
Jack Reacher is a movie adaption from the 2005 novel titled ‘One Shot‘ by Jim Grant, whose pen name is Lee Child, , with the character also found in 16 other notable novels of Child including ‘Killing Floor’, ‘The Hard Way’, ‘Bad Luck and Trouble’, ‘Nothing to Lose’, ‘Gone Tomorrow’, ’61 Hours’, among others.
Apparently, Tom Cruise was criticized in July 2011 when he was chosen to play the role, with observers noting that the actor will not fit the role considering his height (5’7″) and his body built does not resemble with Jack Reacher‘s, who was described in Child‘s novels as weighing around 250 pounds.
However, Lee Child said that it would be impossible to find a suitable actor for the role and that Tom Cruise has the talent to make an effective Jack Reacher; with among other stars being featured in the movie are Robert Duvall, Rosamund Pike, Werner Herzog, David Oyelowo, and Richard Jenkins.
Meanwhile, Cruise, whose last movie ‘Rock of Ages‘ reportedly failed in the box-office, was last seen in Iceland filming his upcoming movie ‘Oblivion‘, where he and wife Katie Holmes was spotted walking hand-in-hand, two weeks before she filed a divorce from Tom.
