Jacinto Ligot, AFP General, and her wife Erlinda were released from detention by the Senate on Tuesday, March 30, 2011, according to several local news sites.

General Ligot, together with his wife, were detained at the Senate since Thursday, March 24, after the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee cited him in contempt for pretending to be sick during a scheduled hearing last week.

The Senators today questioned the AFP General on his alleged ownership of German bank bonds, which he vehemently denied.

Senator Teofisto Guingona III, Chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, clarified that the Ligot couple were released on the grounds that they have agreed to answer questions at the Senate hearing. He added that the contempt issue will be tackled at a later date.

According to Guingona, the Ligot couple was able to satisfy other Senators with their answers. Among those present in the Senate hearing are Guingona, Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada and Senator Franklin Drilon.
