The Iron Man 3 movie will be digitally re-mastered into IMAX 3D, where Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man. This third installment of Iron Man franchise will be the fourth Marvel film to be released in IMAX theaters, after Iron Man 2 in 2010, Thor in 2011, and The Avengers in 2012.

According to a press release by IMAX on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, Iron Man 3 in IMAX 3D, which will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, will be released in US theaters on May 3, 2013, but will have an earlier worldwide release, which will be on April 25, 2013.
“Marvel and IMAX are a perfect one-two punch, and the Iron Man franchise has become a global phenomenon that resonates with fans around the world,” Greg Foster, chairman and president of IMAX Filmed Entertainment, was quoted in the IMAX press release.
“We look forward to moviegoers experiencing this highly-anticipated next installment of Tony Stark‘s latest adventures in IMAX 3D.” Foster added. The first Iron Man movie reportedly made around $586 million worldwide, while Iron Man 2 earned approximately $623 million, with their total earnings reaching to $1.2 billion.
“With Iron Man 3 building on the events of Marvel‘s The Avengers, audiences are in for yet another incredible moviegoing experience from Marvel Studios,” Dave Hollis, Executive Vice President of Motion Picture Distribution for The Walt Disney Studios, said, calling the film as “larger-than-life action” IMAX 3D film.
Iron Man 3 IMAX 3D will also feature Guy Pierce as Aldrich Killian, Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia “Pepper” Potts, Rebecca Hall as Dr. Maya Hansen, Don Cheadle as Lt. Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes, and Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin, the new villain; and directed by Shane Black.
