iPhone 4S sales hit 4 million units in 3 days, 25 million use iOS 5, Apple says

The iPhone 4S sales have already reached to 4 million units and over 25 million iPhone owners are now using iOS 5, Apple said on Monday, October 17, 2011.

According to Apple on its official website, the company has already sold 4 million units of its latest iPhone, the iPhone 4S; and more than 25 million customers are already using iOS 5.

iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekend—the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days,” Apple Worldwide Product Marketing SVP Philip Schiller was quoted on the report.

iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever.” Schiller added, three days after the new iPhone was released.

On its first day of release last Friday, thousands of iPhone fans in different parts of the world rushed to their nearest Apple store as early as 18 hours before they opened, with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak to be among its first buyers.

On earlier reports, AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint announced that pre-orders were sold out on its first day, October 7, with AT&T revealing that over 200,000 iPhone 4S units were preordered in the first 12 hours.

As noted by Apple, iPhone 4S is available today in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the UK and will be will be available in 22 more countries on Friday, October 28.

This includes Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Although iPhone 4S looks the same as the iPhone 4, it features the A5, a faster dual-core processor, an 8-megapixel camera, as well as Siri, the highly-acclaimed voice recognition assistant.

Meanwhile, Apple also said that over 25 million customers are already using iOS 5, its latest mobile operating system; and more than 20 million customers have signed up for iCloud.

Both the iOS 5 and iCloud were released last Wednesday, October 12, prior to the release of the iPhone 4S, but the iCloud was released about a few hours earlier than the iOS 5.
