Apple is being expected to unveil its next iPad this Wednesday, March 7, but recent rumors are now saying that it will be called iPad HD and not iPad 3, which will break the traditional numbering scheme of the iPad, from the current iPad 2.

According to CNET.com on Monday, March 5, 2012, a developer confirmed to them that Apple will call their upcoming iPad as iPad HD, which stands for High-Definition screen that the company will be promoting.

As noted in the report, the idea of the iPad HD name could have come from a report of Gizmodo last week, where an alleged part listings from Griffin and Belkin, called the Apple product as “iPad HD (3)“.

In addition, the iPad HD name was said to be corresponding to the usage reports from an application called Tapatalk that included “iPad HD” as among the list of devices using it; and is also match to the so-called new Retina-like display of the next iPad.

Apparently, a report at Venture Beat also on Monday said a source told them that the next iPad will be called iPad HD and not iPad 3, noting that it will feature a high-resolution display running at 2048 by 1536 pixels, higher than the current iPads that have a 1024 by 768 display.

Incidentally, this is the same information that “The Verge” reported back in July last year citing that iPad HD is designed to be a “professional” device targeting the higher end market, or to people whose work are related to video and photo production.

Meanwhile, Chinese blog MIC Gadget revealed last Sunday that they gotten some of the actual parts of the upcoming iPad from an Apple supplier in Shenzhen, China, including its front glass, rear shell and plastic casing; and confirmed that it will have a Home button.
