Geary D. Gearn, 67, of Hereford, Texas, is a cattle industry businessman from north Texas according to Star Tribune of Minneapolis.

According to reports, Gearn has operated a cattle feed mill business, the Gearn Industries Inc. for about 40 years.

Deena Richards, office manager of Gearn Industries Inc. said that Gearn left Texas on Tuesday on a commercial flight to pick up his plane in the Twin Cities, where it had been for several months for maintenance. He was planning to fly about 1,000 miles Wednesday from Air Lake Airport in Lakeville back home, when it crashed on a farm about 14 miles south of the Minnesota border.

Reports said that Gearn was the only person on board on his single-engine Swearingen SX300 plane. The plane crashed about 3 p.m. Wednesday near Milford, according to aviation authorities.

Earlier reports said that a resident heard a plane flying low nearby then with the engine shutting off and hearing a crash shortly after.

The National Transportation Safety Board is now having an investigation and according to an NTSB official, skies were overcast, with light rain and modest winds in the area of the crash.
