iOS 5 Released by Apple, Update Now Available on iTunes

Apple iOS 5 was officially released on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 as earlier confirmed by company officials, according to reports by several international news sites.

iOS 5 is a free update and can be acquired by plugging any compatible device to Apple‘s iTunes which was upgraded to version 10.5, hours before the release of the new mobile operating system. The new version of iOS is reportedly compatible with Apple‘s iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. iOS 5 update was made available at approximately 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Among the 200 new features of iOS 5 includes a new notifications system, a messaging platform called iMessage, and closely tied up to Apple‘s iCloud service.

Apple announced iOS 5 in June, during its 2011 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Reports say that iOS 5 has undergone seven beta versions before its official release.
