As noted at InternationalWomensDay.com, there are 1,587 events in various countries around the world including Philippines; while Google on its homepage changed its logo into colorful logo celebrating the 101st International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women’s Day, is marked on March 8 every year. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political and social achievements.” A statement reads on the video description by Google.

“In many regions, the day lost its political flavor, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother’s Day and St Valentine’s Day.” Google added.

Apparently, Google‘s overlapping-letter logo has “G” replaced as the universal female symbol while the second “O” features a marigold-yellow flower; and the traditionally blue characters have been changed to purple, with both the violet shades and the female Venus symbol represent the International Women’s Day logo itself.

“Activity on International Women’s Day has skyrocketed over the last five years. This is due to the rise of social media, celebrity involvement, and corporations taking on the day sponsoring and running big events.” Glenda Stone, founder of InternationalWomensDay.com was quoted at Telegraph.
