Dan Wheldon won the Indianapolis 500, May 29, while Hildebrand crashed into a wall and Danica Patrick lost. This was reported by US news sites on the same date.

According to reports, Wheldon’s win in the Indianapolis 500 was unexpected, as rookie Hildebrand had been leading the race for most part. On the last lap however, Hildebrand crashed into a wall, which gave second lead Wheldon to whiz pass him into victory. A William Rast car won the race.

Danica Patrick, who was the 2008 Indianapolis winner, and the first woman to ever win the Indy race, finished 10th. Incidentally, Patrick is featured in a Go Daddy commercial and has been Go Daddy’s girl in the race. Go Daddy, a webhost and domain registrar site, had sponsored the Indy 500 broadcast. Considered by car racing enthusiasts as one of the great American races, the Indianapolis 500 attracted about 300,000 fans.

Reports further revealed that Indy 500 is purported to be Danica Patrick’s last participation in the event before she moves to NASCAR. Hildebrand said in an interview about his last minute loss:

“Once I hit the marbles it was all over. It was a horrible feeling, having no power over what was going to happen.”
