According to Times of India on Monday, July 04, 2011, the India treasure discovered inside the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is now being estimated to be worth Rs 1 lakh crore or $22 billion.

Nevertheless, the country’s Supreme Court-appointed committee has not yet confirmed the actual worth of the treasures found but Indian historians told reports their value can be determined later.

As of this writing, two more vaults will be opened with the last one to be opened on Monday as the six vaults inside the 16th century Hindu temple were said to be sealed for more than 150 years.

“The wealth belonged to the temple and it will be preserved where it was found. There is religious and historical significance to the findings.” Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy was quoted on the report.

“The state will ensure its security,” Chandy added, noting that local police would be patrolling the shrine on a 24/7 basis with a control room now functioning.

Earlier reports revealed that several idol figurines made of pure gold, about 1 kg each; 1,200 gold chains, golden plates, Belgium diamonds, rubies and emeralds, have been found since Saturday.
