Ibiza, Spain’s Ongoing Forest Fire Caused Evacuation of Residents and Tourists

Reportedly, one of the worst forest fires in Ibiza, Spain has caused the evacuation of residents and tourists from their homes and hotels as the fire still raged amidst Ibiza’s 2,000 hectares of pine trees. This was reported by Spanish sites, May 26 & 27, 2011.

According to reports, 5 helicopters, 6 amphibious planes and firefighters are there at the scene but the wind has made it difficult to contain the fire. Tourists from the Paradise Beach hotel were transferred to safer places. The affected places are Portinatx, Cala San Vicente, Es Figueral, San Juan and Sierre Marna.

Ibiza is an incredible, vacation island frequented by the rich and the famous with the likes of Penelope Cruz and many more entertainment celebrities. Tourists however, were advised by Spanish officials to check with their tour companies before deciding to visit Ibiza because of the ongoing forest fire, which up to this date has not been contained yet.
